Have you ever been uncertain in your career? We’ve all been there. Maybe you’re uncertain about taking the steps to get you to your goal. You could be working hard and seeing little to no results for you in your current position. As a dedicated worker, you want to see results in your work that reassure you that you’re taking the necessary steps to further your career and sharpen your skill.

If you’re wondering what to do in your career that doesn’t seem to be the right fit for you, we have a plan of action for you:

Be self aware.

The key to success is aligning your core strengths with your job. If you don’t know your core strengths, taking a personality assessment can help you learn more about the right types of jobs for you, what you might like to do, and what type of work environment your best suited for.

Ask yourself what you want achieve.

Before making moves to shift your career, you will need to know where you want your career to go. Do you like marketing? What aspect of marketing do you enjoy? Is it content creation? Social Media? Do you want to be a mid-level executive or do you want to be the CEO? Do you want to be in control of your hours or is having a schedule something that you would prefer? Are you comfortable with handling a lot of responsibility or is that the job you would rather give to someone else? Start creating your dream career and break it down into small steps to get you there.

Commit to the goal.

You don’t have to have a full plan mapped out. Start out by asking yourself “What is one thing I need to find out in order for me to achieve my dreams?” Do you need to learn more about the process for a certification? Do you need to go to more networking events to help you find a mentor? Do you want to go back to school to get another degree? Create one simple goal. For example, you can call a college to learn more about the applicaiton process or use meetup.com to find networking events. It’s the baby steps that will get you there.

Some people have a plan of action and then fail to take action. No plan is a good one if you’re not willing to put in the work to excel in your field. This may take long hours and busy days, but always remember that, ultimately, you are investing in yourself. No one is going to commit to your goal for you, and no one will want you to be successful more than yourself.
