What we learned from Arianna Huffington at the Boston Innovation Women’s Conference

Posted by Tech Connection on May 12, 2016

On May 9th, 2016, Boston Business Women hosted Boston’s first Innovation Women’s Conference. Keynote speaker, Arianna Huffington, was in attendance to share her wealth of knowledge in business with her fellow business leaders and offer advice for success. As Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington left everyone with a few key take-aways for successfully handling business endeavors and balancing life:

  1. Get some sleep.

Being successful means that you have to make sacrifices. However, as a business person, you will need a good night’s rest to properly function. Overworking yourself can lead to sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can cause your health to decline and ultimately take away from the time that you could be using to make your business flourish. While we all want to be successful we shouldn’t sacrifice our health. Afterall, our health is our number one wealth. Don’t be afraid to take some time to power down without technology.
  2. Make time for yourself.

Keep in mind that you are not just responsible for your work, but you are responsible for yourself. Making sure to have a clear divide between work and leisure is crucial for your mental health and recharging your body. Keeping your body and mind healthy will lead to higher productivity. Recharging can be something as simple as going to lunch with a friend and not talking about work or checking email. It’s just one hour. You owe it to yourself and your friend to be fully present during the time you spend with them. This way, you will be able to get through work without feeling stressed and deprived of a social life.
  3. Life's a journey; be proud of your accomplishments.

"Look for moments in your life that you can celebrate. Even if they are small, enjoy the special moments because your life can change at the drop of a dime."
Once you begin being grateful for the little things, you will realize that your dreams and accomplishments are laying the foundation for a successful future.
